Ryan Ireland for Eagle Mountain City Council

Ryan was convinced by several neighbors that he should run for city council. So he did. We have spent several weeks putting up signs, handing out fliers, going door to door meeting people. Ryan's good at that! We didn't know what would happen in the primary elections, but he made it through to the general elections. We have a little bit of a break and then on to more campaigning. More than I've ever wanted in my lifetime!!! The worst part is trying to get money for the campaign. We have to start all over on that to get money for the general election. Things are so expensive! Voters of Eagle Mountain made their choices known in the primary election Tuesday. Having the second highest voter turnout in Utah County, 21 percent, 1,191 of the 5,553 registered voters in the city cast a ballot.

"I am pleased with the voter turn out," said Donna Burnham, City Council candidate, who is moving on to the general election and also says she looks forward to getting out and talking to people on an individual basis.

The mayoral race is now between current Councilwoman Heather Jackson, who says that an important thing to remember is that it will only be a two-year term so that experience is a key factor in the race, and Richard Culbertson, who says that despite the fact that Kenneth Hixson is not moving on to the general election the candidates on his platform plan to continue forward with their "Keeping the Promise" campaign.

In the Nov. 6 general election, voters will select three candidates to fill the City Council seats. Donna Burnham, Eric Cieslak, Robert DeKorver, Ryan Ireland, Nathan Ochsenhirt and incumbant Linn Strouse are all moving on the general election.

Out of the six City Council candidates Ryan Ireland received the most votes by a margin of just over 100 more votes than the next candidate. Donna Burnham came in second in the race with 474 votes.

There are still 42 provisional ballots to be counted. The final numbers will be reported at the City Council meeting on Sept. 18.
